Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP

GrapheneOS, a security-focused Android fork, has released Android 17, a major update that includes new APIs without being accepted into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This marks the first time since Android 3.x that new APIs have been added to the operating system outside of the AOSP process. GrapheneOS has been working on Android 17 for over a year, and the update includes numerous bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features. The update is available for Pixel 4 and 4 XL devices, as well as other devices supported by the GrapheneOS project.
