Closing the IPv6 First-Packet Gap with Grand

The Grand project aims to tackle the IPv6 first-packet gap by providing a free, open-source alternative to the standard router advertisement (RA) process. The project's current implementation uses a Linux-based system to create a virtual router on a Cloudflare edge server, which responds to IPv6 router solicitations with RA messages. This allows IPv6 clients to obtain an IPv6 prefix and configure their networks. Grand's authors claim that their solution can reduce the latency required for IPv6 connectivity by up to 90% compared to traditional methods. The project is still in its early stages, but it has shown promising results in initial testing.
