US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
The US has confirmed for the first time that it has deployed space-based weapons, which are designed to target and destroy enemy satellites. The US Space Force has announced the deployment of the 'Space Testbed Reconnaissance System' (STRS), a satellite that can destroy enemy satellites in low Earth orbit. The STRS uses a 'kill vehicle' that can take out an enemy satellite by colliding with it at high speed. The US Space Force said the STRS is a 'critical component' of the US military's space capabilities, and is designed to protect US interests in space. The STRS is part of a broader US effort to develop space-based weapons that can be used to counter the growing threat of enemy satellites.
