Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity

Researchers have found that creatine supplementation can enhance antitumor immunity by increasing the uptake of creatine in cancer cells, which in turn increases the expression of the immune checkpoint molecule PD-L1. This leads to an enhanced antitumor response, as the immune system is better able to target and destroy cancer cells. The study, published in the journal iScience, used a mouse model to test the effects of creatine supplementation on antitumor immunity. The results showed that creatine supplementation increased the uptake of creatine in cancer cells, which increased the expression of PD-L1. This, in turn, led to an enhanced antitumor response, with the immune system targeting and destroying more cancer cells. The study suggests that creatine supplementation may be a potential therapeutic strategy for enhancing antitumor immunity in humans.
