Qualcomm launches two new smartphone chips with emphasis on AI

Qualcomm has launched two new smartphone chips, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, which focus on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy has a 1.5 GHz Cortex-X3 CPU core, a 3.0 GHz Cortex-A715 CPU core, and a 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 CPU core. The chip also includes a dedicated AI engine, which can run a 30 billion parameter mixture-of-experts (MoE) model locally, allowing for faster and more efficient AI processing. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, on the other hand, has a 2.5 GHz Cortex-A715 CPU core and a 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 CPU core, and does not have a dedicated AI engine. However, both chips support the Qualcomm Adreno 740 GPU, which provides improved graphics and AI performance. The new chips are designed to be more power-efficient and will be used in high-end Android smartphones.
