California tightens rules on AI data center energy and water use

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed seven bills to regulate AI data center energy and water use, requiring data centers to pay for utility upgrades and introducing a new rate classification. The new laws aim to prevent data centers from passing utility costs onto residents. The California Public Utilities Commission will oversee the implementation of these regulations.
