ZK-JPEG: Zero-Knowledge Image Editing and Compression

Researchers have proposed a new zero-knowledge image editing and compression technique called ZK-JPEG. This system allows users to edit images in a way that the edited pixels are not visible to anyone else, even the server. The technique uses homomorphic encryption, which enables computations on encrypted data without decrypting it first. ZK-JPEG achieves a compression ratio of 1.6:1, similar to JPEG, while maintaining the quality of the original image. It also supports lossy and lossless compression and decompression.
